The Hopedale Medical Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025 scholarships, aimed at supporting local students in their pursuit of higher education in agriculture and healthcare fields. The selection was made by an independent panel of judges who meticulously reviewed applications from students across the area.
Since its inception in 1980, the foundation has awarded over $625,000 to deserving students, demonstrating its commitment to empowering the next generation. This year's scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000, addressing various educational needs.
Phyllis Martin Memorial Nursing Scholarship: The $1,000 scholarship, honoring a long-time HMC nurse, was awarded to Remi Kraft, a Midwest Central High School senior and daughter of Dannie and Jennifer Kraft. Remi plans to pursue nursing at Illinois Central College.
Donna Bitner Springer Nursing Scholarship: The $2,000 scholarship, named after the first Director of Nurses at Hopedale Hospital, was granted to Aspen Kirchmeier from Tremont High School. Aspen, daughter of Rachel Holbrook, will pursue an ADN at Illinois Central College.
Neil Alford, Jr. Memorial Scholarship: In memory of Hopedale’s past mayor and HMC board member, the $1,000 agricultural scholarship was awarded to Grace Birkey, daughter of Scott and Carol Birkey. Grace, an Olympia High School student, will study Ag-Business at the University of Illinois.
Michelle Anne Rossi Memorial Nursing Scholarship: Chris Wilson, an Illinois Wesleyan University student and CNA at HMC, received the $5,000 scholarship. Chris, son of Troy and Tammy Wilson, is pursuing a BSN degree.
Orville Augsburger/Dorene Oehler Scholarship: The $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Miley Harper, a Delavan High School senior and daughter of Jason and Staci Harper. Miley will attend Olivet Nazarene University to become a social worker.
Founder’s Scholarship: In honor of HMC’s founder Dr. Lawrence Rossi, Sr., the $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Grace Yontz, a Peoria Notre Dame High School student and Delavan resident. Grace, daughter of Steve and Patricia Yontz, will enter the pre-med program at the University of Illinois or Notre Dame University.
John Rossi Memorial Nursing Scholarship: The $2,000 scholarship was given to McKinze Uhlman from Tremont High School. McKinze, daughter of Gretchen and Nick Uhlman, will begin the nursing program at Illinois State University.
Candice Blackert Nursing Scholarship: Bryce Meyer, an Illinois Central College student, received the $3,000 scholarship. Bryce, son of Erin and Wyatt Meyer, is completing his RN degree.
David Eckhardt Memorial Scholarship: Sidney Beavers, an Olympia High School senior, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship. Sidney, daughter of Laura and Mike Beavers, will attend the University of Kentucky to become a physical therapist.
