OHS Weekly Sports Recap

This week was very busy with sporting events for Olympia High School. Every day there was at least one competition going on, with multiple on many days.

To start off with a sports highlight, girls’ basketball won all six of their games this week! Monday was a conference game vs Rantoul. Olympia came out strong after the day off school to allow JV with a 58-16 win and varsity with a 70-22 win. Taylor Nowaskie scored 22 points and Casey Wissmiller ended with 21. Another conference game was played Thursday night at Paxton-Buckley-Loda, an 80-minute bus ride away. JV played a close game, but then came out with the win. Varsity girls won yet again 58-27. On Saturday they played at Peoria Manual with JV winning 41-36 and varsity winning 57-33. This advances their record to 16 wins and 7 losses.

Boys’ basketball also had a busy week of games. The freshman team played against University High School, winning 56-26 and at Eureka, winning 50-47 during the week. Saturday they also had a tournament at Bloomington High School. Tuesday night, Olympia hosted Monticello. JV lost 42-45 and varsity lost 41-69. At these games, the dance team had their mini dance clinic for the younger kids. This was a great fundraiser for the OHS dance team, having 127 participants! A few days before the game, the high schoolers taught the children the dances at camp. Then, PreK and Kindergarten performed at halftime of the JV game and 1st-5th grade at halftime of the varsity game. The girls had so much fun! Each participant even received a Disney t-shirt to go along with the music theme.

Boys’ basketball then traveled to Midwest Central on Thursday, coming home with a JV win 60-18 and varsity win 67-51. Friday night, the boys played at St. Thomas More. JV won 39-31 and varsity lost 26-56. Varsity boys’ basketball now has a record of 5 wins and 15 losses.
The wrestling team had a big win on Tuesday at GCMS/Fisher. The final score was 52-21. This advanced the team to a 22-8 record. Then, on Thursday night they hosted a triangular meet against Ridgeview and Monticello. On Saturday, Olympia High School hosted their big JV Invitational meet.

Boys’ swimming traveled to LaSalle Peru on Wednesday to compete against Mahomet Seymour, too. The boys then went back there Saturday morning for the Pentathlon swim meet.
