RAVING REVIEW: <\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>Before I start this, take your expectations and toss them out the window, because anything you are thinking about what this film will be, you’re already wrong! Paris introduces herself by showing off the clutter inside her apartment, including a tribute to the musicians she worships. The tour establishes almost everything I LOVE PARIS needs us to understand. She’s funny, uninhibited, slightly exhausting, completely committed to her own mythology, unhinged, and already performing for an audience before anyone has shown much interest in watching.<\/p>\n

\n

Aminata Thiboult takes that oversized personality and refuses to turn it into something for mass appeal. Paris wants to become a singer, though wanting success and possessing the discipline required to earn it aren’t necessarily the same thing. She talks with the confidence of someone who has already imagined the documentary about her rise, complete with admirers, artistic struggles, and evidence that everyone who doubted her lacked vision. Being turned into a vampire doesn’t create her hunger for recognition. It only gives that hunger a form and removes a few remaining limits.<\/p>\n

The mockumentary-like structure lets Paris control how she presents herself while repeatedly revealing what she would rather hide. She speaks to the camera as though it were hers, using it to rewrite embarrassment, justify selfishness, and turn every mistake into another chapter of an inevitable success story. Director and co-writer Nicky Murphy understands that this format becomes tiresome when every scene depends on someone acknowledging the crew or delivering a punchline directly into the lens. The camera has a purpose here. It feeds Paris’ belief that visibility matters more than honesty.<\/p>\n

That belief becomes increasingly dangerous once her transformation begins. Paris approaches vampirism less like a curse than an unexpected career opportunity. The nighttime freedom, sharpened confidence, and growing mystique all fit the performer she has been trying to invent. Blood becomes another requirement of advancement, no stranger to her than networking, self-promotion, strategic friendships, or pretending every room is lucky to have her.<\/p>\n

The metaphor isn’t difficult to recognize, although I LOVE PARIS has too much affection for its characters to reduce them to an argument about fame. The music industry is predatory, social media encourages performance, and creative ambition can drain the people standing nearby. Paris participates willingly because the attention feels good to her. Her choices become disturbing without turning her into an empty warning about vanity.<\/p>\n

Thiboult keeps the character entertaining even when Paris crosses the line that should make her unbearable. Her timing is loose and impulsive, giving the exchanges the sense that Paris is inventing herself as she speaks. She can fill a room through sheer insistence, then let a flicker of insecurity reveal how fragile that confidence really is. The performance never asks the audience to mistake charisma for kindness. It understands why other people might remain close enough to be hurt by her.<\/p>\n

Louiza Aura and Leonor Oberson are especially valuable because Mimi and Lutèce don’t exist only to admire Paris. Their reactions supply a reality that the subject keeps trying to edit out. Affection gradually has to compete with resentment, concern, and the recognition that Paris’ dream may consume anyone who treats it seriously. The friendships provide the emotional consequences that the vampire comedy could otherwise avoid.<\/p>\n

Noé Hermelin, Romane de Stabenrath, and Antoine Dumortier help expand the circle around Paris, creating a collection of musicians, partners, collaborators, and witnesses who occupy different positions inside her self-created legend. Some are attracted to the energy. Others appear to recognize the danger before she does. The ensemble gives the entire film enough competing perspectives to keep it from becoming two uninterrupted hours of Paris addressing the camera.<\/p>\n

The music deserves equal praise; songs aren’t treated as pauses between developments or excuses for another montage. Performance is the place where Paris’ ambition becomes easiest to understand. She may be reckless, vain, and emotionally careless, though the possibility that she could become the artist she imagines can’t be dismissed. That uncertainty matters. A story about a talentless narcissist would be much less interesting.<\/p>\n

Parisian nightlife is a working, living, breathing environment here. Small venues, crowded apartments, neon-lit streets, backstage, and rooms converted into creative spaces form the world Paris believes she should dominate. The city is glamorous from certain angles, though its glamour often depends on poor lighting and someone working without enough money. That keeps the production from becoming overly enamored with its own setting.<\/p>\n

The unique framing adds to the documentary vibes while giving Murphy room to construct images that feel more deliberate. Faces are often surrounded by the objects, decorations, and people Paris has pulled into her world. Her apartment looks authentic in every possible way, and that reality continues throughout the movie. Even when Paris is technically alone, she is surrounded by evidence of the image she has been assembling.<\/p>\n

Vampirism allows the film to exaggerate everything, as night replaces day, appetite overtakes restraint, and other people become resources. Paris doesn’t suddenly lose her soul in one dramatic moment. She gives pieces of it away whenever recognition matters more than loyalty, spectacle becomes preferable to intimacy, or a person is valued according to what they can contribute to her ascent.<\/p>\n

I LOVE PARIS has an absurd streak and isn’t afraid to let it be. Awkward interviews, improvised explanations, uncomfortable encounters, and the disconnect between Paris’ self-image and everyone else’s experience generate more humor than expected, especially when played straight. The funniest moments often arise when she attempts to manage the version of events after the truth has already been captured on camera.<\/p>\n

Cuts land on reactions rather than waiting for every joke to be explained, and performances are allowed to interrupt the supposed professionalism. The visual language becomes more expressive as Paris changes, gradually moving beyond the rough spontaneity of the opening apartment tour. The shift is noticeable without abandoning the conceit that someone is trying to document what is happening.<\/p>\n

The horror becomes most effective when it intrudes on a moment that had previously felt lighter. Blood and death aren’t separated from the experience. They exist within the same world, forcing characters to respond to something while Paris continues worrying about how everything affects her career. So much of the movie depends on Paris remaining compelling after the novelty of her transformation fades. Thiboult meets that challenge by allowing desperation to emerge beneath the confidence. Immortality doesn’t solve the fear that nobody will care. Greater power doesn’t guarantee talent, connection, or a lasting audience. Paris can survive far longer than the people around her and remain terrified that she will disappear without leaving anything meaningful behind.<\/p>\n

The movie celebrates artists, nightlife, friendship, experimentation, and the ridiculous confidence required to create something in public. It also recognizes how quickly ambition can become an excuse for cruelty. Paris keeps insisting that success will justify the damage, partly because acknowledging otherwise would require her to confront how much she has already surrendered.<\/p>\n

I LOVE PARIS leaves behind a singer who becomes more visible as she becomes less recognizable to the people who loved her first. Its comedy, music, horror, and portrait of Parisian nightlife don’t always settle comfortably beside one another, but comfort would be the wrong endgame for a film this restless. Thiboult gives the disorder a face worth following, even when Paris proves that being fascinating and being good have never been the same thing.<\/p>\n
