RAVING REVIEW: <\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> Ricky and Billy possess the confidence of people who have learned just enough to believe they understand everything, a dangerous combination. They know their neighborhood park is threatened, recognize that local politics favors money over sentiment, and correctly assume that ordinary citizens have little influence over the outcome. Their mistake is thinking a fraudulent campaign fundraiser and a cryptocurrency can somehow correct that imbalance without destroying their own lives.<\/p>\n

COIN turns that poor judgment into an independent buddy comedy about friendship, speculation, and the ways people rationalize dishonesty when they believe their intentions are good. Ricky and Billy aren’t initially motivated by personal luxury or dreams of becoming celebrities. They want to stop a luxury housing development from replacing the park where they spent their childhood. Their attachment to that place gives the scheme a solid foundation, even as every decision they make becomes harder to defend.<\/p>\n

Writer and director John Brownell begins with consequences already approaching before returning to the hours leading up to the crisis. The structure immediately establishes that the friends’ operation won’t remain a harmless internet stunt, allowing the earlier comedy to unfold under a threat. Ricky and Billy may be laughing, improvising, and congratulating themselves, but the audience understands that someone will eventually demand an explanation for the missing money.<\/p>\n

Tyler Picchi and Danny Breslin make that extended buildup enjoyable through two contrasting varieties of incompetence. Picchi plays Ricky as the more anxious participant, someone whose uncertainty keeps escaping even when he attempts to project confidence. Breslin gives Billy the momentum of a person who considers every new mess-up proof that the plan merely requires more commitment. One worries that they have gone too far, while the other keeps discovering new directions in which to go even farther.<\/p>\n

Their friendship makes the increasingly ridiculous scheme easier to accept. Ricky and Billy have the connection of people who have spent years encouraging each other’s worst impulses, and their conversations suggest that this is hardly the first terrible idea they have mistaken for an opportunity. Their affection feels genuine, which matters once lies, finances, pressure, and self-preservation begin testing how much loyalty either one can reasonably expect from the other.<\/p>\n

Brownell uses cryptocurrency as more than a reference point. The coin becomes an extension of the friends’ thinking, created from optimism, a little technical know-how, online enthusiasm, and almost no understanding of what gives an investment value. They can participate in a financial system without understanding it because excitement carries more influence than knowledge. The joke works because Ricky and Billy are hardly alone in believing confidence can substitute for expertise.<\/p>\n

Their online speculation is mirrored by the local political operation threatening the park. Both systems depend on perception, access, and the ability to convince people that something benefits them. The mayor’s development project operates through traditional channels, while Ricky and Billy attempt to manufacture their own influence through digital money. COIN draws a funny connection between those worlds without pretending one form of manipulation becomes respectable simply because it arrives with campaign materials and official titles.<\/p>\n

Discussions of campaign regulations, account balances, cryptocurrency mechanics, and legal exposure can slow the comedy when the basic problem is already apparent. Ricky and Billy took money that did not belong to them, placed it into something extraordinarily unstable, and are now incapable of returning it. A lot of terminology adds authenticity, though it can also make several exchanges feel like instructions being delivered to characters who should have asked questions much earlier.<\/p>\n

Madison West provides an important counterweight as Audrey, the person forced to explain that enthusiasm hasn’t magically transformed fraud into activism. West has a grounded presence that works well against the leads’ escalating panic. Audrey’s practical reactions also give the movie an outside perspective, confirming that Ricky and Billy’s reasoning only makes sense within the self-reinforcing logic of their friendship.<\/p>\n

Sharlene Radlein and Brielle Madison contribute to the surrounding political and personal complications, though the screenplay remains focused mainly on Ricky and Billy. That helps to strengthen the buddy comedy while leaving parts of the larger community conflict less developed than they could have been. The park carries symbolic importance, but the film spends less time showing what its loss would mean to anyone outside the two men attempting to save it.<\/p>\n

Roy Abramsohn’s arrival as the Fixer pushes COIN toward a darker form of comedy. He represents the moment when Ricky and Billy discover that political corruption isn’t some abstract subject for internet debates. Someone expected that money to be there, and their explanations are worthless to people accustomed to solving problems through intimidation.<\/p>\n

Abramsohn brings a welcome change in vibes, although the danger surrounding his character never really overtakes the film’s lighter nature. The threat is credible enough to keep the plot moving, but the movie remains more comfortable observing foolish behavior than generating sustained suspense.<\/p>\n

Brownell doesn’t need extravagant locations or elaborate action to show a pair of men becoming trapped by numbers on a screen. Much of their crisis unfolds through conversations, delayed transactions, and desperate attempts to make one account repair the damage caused by another.<\/p>\n

COIN works best as a portrait of two friends trying to preserve something meaningful with tools they barely understand. Their motives don’t erase the dishonesty, though they prevent the characters from becoming just regular scammers. Brownell recognizes that people can care about their community and remain perfectly capable of exploiting it when desperation combines with misplaced certainty.<\/p>\n

The satire doesn’t uncover anything especially surprising about political greed or speculative finance, and the screenplay sometimes strains to keep everything going at 100%. Its character work is stronger than its commentary, largely because Picchi and Breslin make Ricky and Billy’s friendship believable beneath the deception. Even when their decisions become indefensible, watching them search for the next terrible solution remains amusing.<\/p>\n

COIN captures a particular kind of modern nonsense in which people confuse access to information with actual understanding, the Dunning-Kruger effect in full-on example mode. Ricky and Billy can create a currency, collect donations, promote a cause, and move money within minutes, but none of that technology provides judgment. Their crisis begins with a sincere desire to resist powerful people and grows because they imitate the same disregard for consequences that made those people powerful in the first place.<\/p>\n
