From Cornith Films comes one of my favorite films that I’ve seen over the last year without question. Sometimes a film touches you from the first frame, which was one of those cases for me. I have a hard time when someone asks me what my favorite movie is; I could never answer that question. I don’t even have a favorite genre, let alone a favorite specific film. I could list hundreds of movies that I love. This would be added to that list without a doubt.<\/p>\n

I’ve been lucky enough in life never to have to experience the story that we see on screen in person. I can’t fathom having someone you love go through such a painful experience. I’ve seen other films that dealt with memory loss and dementia before but never in a personal and authentic way.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The key to telling a story that deals with emotions are the connections you’re allowed with characters in the film. You have to feel their give and take, their wins and loses; there has to be something at stake. I’ve been so impressed with the emotional stakes that the entirety of the cast had during this film. While listed on IMDb as a drama, I would say that there is a lot of comedy to it as well. Not always as a straightforward comedy but in dealing with situations that could otherwise be heartbreaking but were lightened by moments that allow you to smile and tell yourself that everything will be okay.<\/p>\n

I knew that Rémy Girard (Édouard Beauchemin) looked familiar, but I couldn’t place him; he sold his character so well that I fell into him being the character we ride this emotional rollercoaster with throughout the film. After watching it, I looked him up and was blown away that I had somehow not been able to place where I knew him from. He’s been in so many notable films! THE FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE, INCENDIES, THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS, and more! He has an incredible ability to steal the screen; I was in awe of how he portrayed this terrible time in someone's life so well.<\/p>\n

If you have the opportunity, I would very much recommend checking out this film. Unfortunately, its initial release in Canada was in March 2020, right before COVID hit. It’s been shown at a few festivals, and now with the virtual cinema debut, I hope it gains some momentum. I would love to see the film as Canada’s Oscar submission next year (as recommended by a friend.)  I don’t know how that necessarily works, but I think this would be a spectacular nominee if eligible! I’m so happy to be sharing my thoughts on it with you all.<\/p>\n
