For a series about the troubled past of the Victoria’s Secret brand, I found the film drifting off into more of a series about Jeffrey Epstein and his connection than the brand itself. That isn’t to say that this was bad, it was pretty informative, and I learned a significant amount about the background of the once luxurious brand.<\/p>\n

Director Matt Tyrnauer also directed the documentary STUDIO 54, one of the best on the fabled nightclub. Beyond the focus of the mini-series getting a little off track, it was very well done with a start-to-finish story of the company and its various issues throughout its existence. While I may hold the deep dive into Epstein against this series, I also understand not being able to tell this story without telling his. It just felt like, at times, I was watching the wrong documentary.<\/p>\n

I grew up during the height of Victoria’s Secret, from fashion shows to the audacious “Angels.” You couldn’t walk through a mall without seeing the vibrant pink marquee that stood out among even the most over-the-top store displays. For good or bad, the man behind it is billionaire Les Wexner, and seeing his story unfold was the proper filling of the documentary. His once foolproof retail strategies and his foolhardy stubbornness when ultimately his undoing. <\/p>\n

It probably would have been more impactful if this had been condensed into a two-hour documentary. Three-hour-long episodes make for quite the daunting task, especially when the same drum is beat in each of them. I would have liked to see it broken up into the rise\/the highs, the lows\/the downfall, and the fallout\/rebirth. I think breaking it up like that could’ve justified the length and helped keep each episode more focused.<\/p>\n

While I knew there was a significant change in the background, I didn’t know what had all happened. I knew that years too late, they realized that the “Angels” image had outgrown the times. I knew someone new had taken over the company, but that’s pretty much it. This gave a unique look into the workings of the fallen empire.<\/p>\n
