RAVING REVIEW: <\/strong>My number one complaint about scary movies rears its ugly head again. What otherwise could\u2019ve been a terrifying new entry into the horror genre gets blindsided by a \u201cmonster\u201d that we see too much.<\/p>\n

\n

Sadly, many horror films fall victim to this because it’s such an easy thing to do, especially with those who demand instant gratification. Many people want to see the \u201cscary,\u201d and while I get that to an extent, I think it hurts the film more often than not.<\/p>\n

With that out of the way, I genuinely enjoyed the idea of the movie. It took the old \u201ccreepypasta\u201d (horror-related legends shared around the internet) idea and updated it with a modern take. I don\u2019t know if this has been done before, but it would shock me if it hasn\u2019t. I know there have been a lot of creepypasta films, especially those involving Slender Man but the idea of modernizing it was interesting.<\/p>\n

I found myself lost in the movie, but more of the \u201cwhat if\u201d concept than the actual journey itself. The idea of bringing a meme to life was a take that I wasn\u2019t expecting. There were a lot of positives during the film; I thought the acting was solid, and when you didn\u2019t have the \u201cmonster\u201d shoved down your throat, I thought the film had a stellar vibe to it.<\/p>\n

Creative writing and directing can do far more for this genre than an imaginary monster. This isn\u2019t meant negatively towards the cast or crew here; it\u2019s just a culmination of a trend that I see happening far too often, unfortunately. I can only sit back and hope that someday, the genre will flow into relying more on scary atmosphere than CGI monsters that take me out of the experience entirely.<\/p>\n
