Olympia High School Weekly Sports Recap

Back from winter sports, Taylor Nowaskie earned yet another basketball accomplishment. She made it on the Pantagraph All-Area girls’ team. Taylor is at the top of the area team averaging 24.7 points per game. 

Last Saturday, a few athletes from the track team qualified for the Illinois Top Times Meet. Starting off the day, Owen Dare secured a 6th place medal in the 800m and set a new personal record. Then, Brad Schardan earned 12th in the 400m. For the final boys event, Owen, Brad, Keagan Uphoff, and Cohen Alexander placed 11th in the 4x400m relay. On the girls side of things, Anna Bieber competed in the 400m and finished 20th.

On Monday, the varsity boys baseball team traveled to Tremont. This was a very competitive and close game. But, the Spartans ended up losing 1-2. The freshman baseball team stayed for a home game vs Pontiac, where they lost 0-2.

Tuesday were games for both levels of baseball and softball. Softball played a home game against Mahomet Seymour, whereas the baseball team traveled there. Varsity softball lost 1-3, making it the Spartans first loss of the season. For baseball, varsity lost 5-11 and JV lost 2-9. In this varsity baseball game, it was Cole Kindred’s turn on the mound.

All other sports were canceled until Friday. The JV baseball team went to Delavan and lost 5-6. Then, girls’ soccer traveled all the way to Canton. They ended in a tie game of 1-1. The goal was scored by Andi Ewalt for the Spartans.

Then on Saturday, varsity softball played against Tri-City and came away with a win. The other sport that occurred during the weekend was track & field at Greenville. This meet is the only overnight track meet that the team gets to take for the season. All the athletes traveled down on Friday afternoon to go out to dinner, swim at the hotel, and have team bonding. The track meet began on Saturday morning. This was a large invitational meet with 19 boys and 19 girls teams. Awards were given for the top teams and individual placements. The Lady Spartans finished 3rd overall, while the boys were 4th! Top athletes for the boys include Chase Litwiller, Keagan Uphoff, Skyler Biggs, Logan Demling, Owen Dare, Brad Schardan, and Cooper Phillips. The boys relay team that earned medals were the 4x200m and 4x800m. All of the girls athletes that earned individual medals were Melissa Bieber, Hannah Cleveland, Kyra West, Amelia Kistner, Cam Lawson, Kourtney Fann, Anna Bieber, Chrystal Cornwell, Mallory Miller, Abby Litwiller, and Madison Bales. The top relay teams were the 4x200m, 4x400m, and 4x800m.
