Eric Fulk

Eric Fulk joined the Mt. Hope-Funks Grove Fire Department on January 8th, 2000. After years of hard work and determination, he was hired as a full-time EMT and promoted to Fire Chief on May 1st, 2011. As a young boy, Fulk spent many hours around other family members in the fire service including his late father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was extremely proud that his father was instrumental in bringing Advance Life Support to McLean County.

When asked what a typical day in the life of a fire chief might look like, he stated, “It includes sitting in a recliner all day. Just kidding!” He does many tasks such as writing reports, working on equipment, and most importantly, responding to emergencies. Fulk writes, “Balancing work and time with family is challenging. I have been here for 20 years, and I have missed a lot of birthday parties, graduations, weddings, cook-outs, funerals, and meals. This is the life I have chosen and most of my family understands that.” Whenever he can get away, he likes to go on vacations, play golf, and hang out with friends!

Fulk has a message he would like to share, "I know how dedicated everyone in this department is to this community and the people they help every day. Working 24/7, 365 days a year means taking time away from their own families to meet the needs of others. As not just your chief and fellow firefighter and EMT, but as an ordinary citizen and member of this community, I would like to take the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to every member of the Mt. Hope-Funks Grove FPD. I know your commitment and the care, compassion, and devotion you show every day to your fellow citizens and the patients you treat. I hope others recognize and appreciate all you do every day to help the citizens of this community in their time of need."

Chief Fulk realizes how much of an impact all these people make in the community. It is obvious that he has a great passion for his job and wants to make a difference. Thanks, Chief Fulk for all you do!
