OHS Softball Teams Win Season Openers

Softball opening day was on Monday at Tri-Valley High School. Both the JV and varsity teams came out with big wins this night! Shelby Finchum and Casey Wissmiller both hit home runs, too! The final score for varsity was 16-2. On Thursday, the softball team played their home opener game against Brimfield. Varsity had a walk-off win in the bottom of the 8th inning with a score of 2-1. The Spartans overcame Brimfield in this game with 11 hits, 2 runs, and 0 errors compared to Brimfield with 3 hits, 1 run, and 2 errors.

Baseball had its opening day as a home game on Thursday. JV and varsity played Canton. The baseball team has two fields so they play both games simultaneously. Varsity baseball played a long game and didn’t even get to complete the whole thing before the sunset, forcing the game to end early. Olympia tied with Canton 7-7 at the end of seven innings.

Soccer played their first game Thursday at Decatur Eisenhower/MacArthur. The Spartans won 3-2. The goals were scored by Andi Ewalt, Kaat Biskanter, and Sophia de Val. The two goals that Andi did not score herself, she made the assists for. Sophia had the other assist.

The girls’ track team had another indoor meet at IWU on Wednesday. Olympia’s JV 4x800 meter relay won their race with a time of 11:43. Anna Bieber was 4th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04. Hannah Cleveland was 4th in shot put at 10.25 meters. On Saturday, the boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to U of I for the Gene Armer Indoor Invitational. Anna Bieber was 3rd in the 800-meters, setting a new personal record at 2:29. The girls 4x800 relay team gained 3rd place with a time of 11:01.
