RAVING REVIEW: Prime Video is set to launch a new chapter in CRUEL INTENTIONS' seductive and strategic world, reviving the spirit of the beloved 1999 drama. The series transports us to the corridors of Manchester College, where the game of social hierarchy is more intense than ever. I have to admit, I had tempered expectations, as I’m a big fan of the original film (and even its two direct-to-video follow-ups to some extent.) So when I heard this series was being made, I was intrigued!

Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont, played by Sarah Catherine Hook and Zac Burgess, dominate the screen as the notorious step-siblings navigating through the cutthroat politics of academia. Their reign is jeopardized when a hazing scandal threatens their control over the college's Greek system. In response, they draw Annie Grover, portrayed by Savannah Lee Smith, into their complex web of deceit—a testament to the series' commitment to twisting narratives of manipulation akin to the original film's plot.

Under the creative direction of Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman, CRUEL INTENTIONS reimagines its plot with contemporary twists while staying true to its provocative roots. The narrative unfolds in a high-stakes game of power and deception, with every character a player. Specifically with the dynamic between Caroline and Lucien, the series excels at pulling you into their twisted world.

Sean Patrick Thomas from the original film returns as a new character, bridging the two with a wink and a nod. The ensemble, including Sara Silva's mysterious CeCe Carroway and John Harlan Kim's calculated Blaise Powell, brings a welcome level of intrigue to the series, ensuring that each episode is rife with suspense.

This new rendition of CRUEL INTENTIONS undoubtedly serves as a heartfelt homage to the original film, capturing its essence with just a pinch of the prequel and “sequel” films. The series echoes the thematic and stylistic elements that made the original a cult classic, seamlessly blending them with new plot twists and character developments. It is a welcome addition to the franchise, enhancing the legacy with its fresh perspectives and deeper exploration of the complex dynamics of power and manipulation. Even with new characters and names, the series feels right at home as a new reimagining.

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation builds for how fans will receive CRUEL INTENTIONS and its homage to the original. I believe it will be a success, with just enough news that fans of the original and newcomers alike will appreciate it. The series is set to engage audiences with its blend of drama, sharp writing, and dynamic character interactions, promising a sophisticated exploration of themes such as power, betrayal, and moral ambiguity within the academic elite.

CRUEL INTENTIONS aims to be more than just a reboot; it seeks to explore the intricate dynamics of power and morality within a contemporary setting, challenging characters and viewers alike to question the lengths one would go for supremacy. With a talented cast and a visionary production team, the series stands ready to captivate new fans and longtime admirers of the franchise, delivering an enthralling and thought-provoking narrative.
