Spartan Spring Sports Preview

Spring sports for Olympia High School are officially underway. Olympia offers baseball, softball, girls’ track and field, boys’ track and field, and girls’ soccer at this time. All of these sports welcome athletes in each grade to participate at their appropriate level.

Track and field has a girls and a boys team. Sometimes they even get to have coed meets or relay events together. Both teams have already started practices but are always open to allow more members to join! The head coach for boys is David Stine and the girls is CJ Hamilton. The girls’ first indoor meet is at ISU on March 4th. The boys’ first meet is also an indoor meet at ISU on March 5th. Then, their outdoor meets begin in April.

Baseball has varsity, JV, and freshman teams with many players. The head coach is Justin Lacefield. Practices will begin on February 28th. For JV and varsity, their first game will be on March 14th as a home game against Brimfield. The freshman team will then start gameplay on March 21st with a home matchup against Metamora.

The softball team will compete at the JV and varsity levels. The head coach is Courtney Hoffman. Softball begins practice on February 28th. The first game for them will be March 14th at Tri-Valley High School.

Girls’ soccer only has enough girls to field a varsity team. The coaches are KT and Derek Johnson. They also begin practice on February 28th. The first game is on March 17th at Decatur Eisenhower.

Good luck Olympia Spartans as the new sports begin!
