I don’t normally include trigger warnings at the beginning of my reviews, but CUTE deals directly with sexual attraction toward a child, sexualized age-regression, and other uncomfortable material involving minors. I want to make clear that the film itself does not place any children in harm’s way, but the subjects it explores could still be extremely difficult or upsetting for some viewers, so I think it’s important to say that upfront. The title CUTE is ultimately less a description and more an accusation. We traditionally associate the word with harmless things. Children, stuffed animals, oversized eyes, soft colors, tiny things, and anything designed to provoke affection before we've had time to think about why. Director/co-writer Marlene Emilie Lyngstad takes that and turns it inside out, building a story around adults whose relationships with childhood, innocence, protection, and desire have become tangled in deeply uncomfortable ways.

For a while, THE HERETIKS feels like the most dangerous Disney Channel Halloween special that never existed. There are witches, kids sneaking around, fun Halloween costumes, old folklore, forbidden magic, and enough edgy teenage angst that something like HOCUS POCUS doesn’t feel like a ridiculous comparison. TIME MACHINE MAIDAN is the kind of documentary that not only asks viewers to remember history. It asks them to stand within its consequences. That perspective changes the shape of the story. This isn’t only a vision of historical reflection. Or more accurately, cue the version of a spy thriller where the world’s fate somehow ends up resting in the hands of an underqualified nepo baby stumbling through missions he shouldn’t survive. CHET BOND: LICENSE TO CHILL understands that the funniest thing is the gap between how Chet sees himself and how everyone else sees him. He moves through the world with confidence, convinced he belongs in the same conversation as legendary secret agents, while the people around him are usually just trying to contain the damage. The mockumentary setup only makes that disconnect funnier, turning every failure at looking cool into something increasingly awkward, chaotic, and weirdly endearing.

What makes BEING OLA connect so strongly is how naturally it allows Ola Henningsen to exist on screen. The film never frames him as a lesson, a symbol, or someone whose value depends on inspiring the audience. He’s simply presented as himself, funny, thoughtful, social, uncertain at times, and deeply aware of the world around him. That honesty gives the documentary a warmth that never feels forced.

The setup sounds like a joke. A male stripper shows up for a private booking, walks into the wrong room, and suddenly finds himself surrounded by people who are expecting something very different. That kind of premise can fall apart fast if the film relies too heavily on it alone, but this never treats it as a throwaway concept. It locks into the situation and builds everything from how that misunderstanding plays out moment to moment.

Abby doesn’t get a moment to prepare for what she’s walking into. The house is already full, the tone already set, and everyone else seems to have agreed on how this gathering is supposed to feel. She’s the only one out of step, which makes the situation uncomfortable in a way that doesn’t need exaggeration.

TWO TEARS doesn’t treat childhood like a gentler version of adulthood. It treats it like a space where expectations linger longer than they should. From the opening moments, there’s a sense that these girls aren’t just preparing for a performance, they’re already carrying the pressure to prove something they don’t fully understand yet. Everyone should get a fair shot at childhood, no matter their situation.

There’s a moment early on in this story where it becomes clear this isn’t about a name change on some surface level. It’s about who gets to define reality in a place that’s already been defined for lifetimes. That distinction reshapes everything that follows. What could have been a civic debate becomes something far more personal, rooted in memory, power, and the long shadow of decisions that were never meant to be questioned.

PITTSBURGH doesn’t build toward an emotional pivot; it drops you into the world and lets you sit there long enough to recognize what’s happening. There’s no theatrical proclamation, no oversized moment indicating change. Instead, it trusts the audience to catch up with Mints (Delaney Quinn) at the exact moment when something inside her clicks into place. That restraint becomes an incredibly strong asset, especially given how easily a story like this could lean too hard on sentiment or exaggeration.

The entire idea behind STEAKOUT! runs on a joke that could easily collapse under its own weight. It’s a pun stretched into a full premise, all within the confines of an 8-minute runtime, and that’s usually where things fall apart. What’s surprising here is how committed the film is to seeing that idea through, not just as a gag, but as a structure that keeps building on itself.

There’s no warm-up here. PICKUP opens like it’s already halfway through a joke, then immediately pulls the rug out from under its own premise. What starts as something recognizable, almost predictable, shifts direction so quickly that the film ends up feeling less like what it started as and more like a collision between two completely different emotional spaces.

There’s a moment early on in EYELASHES where it becomes clear this isn’t interested in easing you into anything. The situation is already in motion, the stakes are already defined, and the character is already carrying the depth of a decision that doesn’t have an outcome that makes everything better. In just 16 minutes, it isn’t chasing complexity or scale, it’s chasing truth. And what makes it work is how you can feel the intent behind every decision. What happens when a way of life depends on being alone, but survival increasingly demands connection? THE LAST PUESTERO doesn’t try to frame that question as a philosophical exercise. It observes it unfolding in real time through the daily routines, silences, and contradictions embodied by Adonai Jara, a gaucho (a skilled, historically nomadic horseman and cattle herder of the South American pampas (grasslands)) stationed at a remote Patagonian outpost where tradition still holds, but only barely.
