OHS Weekly Sports Recap

On Monday, baseball and softball were scheduled to play at Central Catholic and soccer was scheduled to play at Riverton. All activities were cancelled due to the weather.

Many Spartan teams tried to compete again on Tuesday, and only a few of the competitions were able to happen. Softball, baseball, and the boys track teams all had competitions called off due to rain. However, wrestling competed at home versus IVC and Tolono Unity and soccer played at home versus IVC. The wrestling team lost both duals, but each individual Spartan wrestler won at least one match. Soccer lost 4-1, giving IVC their second win of the season.

Soccer had the chance for redemption at home on Wednesday versus Pekin and came out strong. They ended up losing 7-5 to the Pekin team that had beat them 7-1 earlier in the season. Senior Erin Turner had one of the five goals for the Spartans. Softball and baseball both played rescheduled games against Central Catholic. Softball played at home and won 10-1, with a great showing from Freshman pitcher Danika Frazier. Baseball lost 3-2 in 10 innings away at Central Catholic, and their pitcher, senior Andrew Nichols, also had a great outing.

On Thursday, the boys track competed at Metamora. Chase Litwiller won high jump and Owen Dare won the 800m. Softball and baseball played at home in conference matchups versus Tolono Unity. Softball was unable to get past Unity’s tough pitching and got their first loss of the season 2-1. Baseball won 4-3! Soccer was away at Peoria Christian and lost 7-0. They held Peoria Christian scoreless in the second half. Wrestling was home versus Eureka and Heyworth and beat Heyworth and experienced a close loss to Eureka.

Finally, on Friday, girls track competed at Unity for the Unity Girls Invite. This is one of the most competitive meets of the year for the Lady Spartans. The 4x800m relay team placed second in their event and freshman Hannah Cleveland placed fifth in shot put. Baseball was home versus Tri Valley for their senior night recognition. The ten seniors led the team to a 7-5 victory. Senior Trevor White had a 2-run RBI and senior Hayden Stork had a homerun. Softball was home versus the #1 ranked 1a Illini Bluffs Tigers, and won 5-1 in a very well-played game! Senior Kennedy Smith was 3-3 with a double, triple, and homerun.
