RAVING REVIEW: Welcome to a world where moral compasses go haywire, and the human psyche gets a startling portrayal, all within the eerie confines of an abandoned asylum. DEADGIRL takes us on a ride that's anything but typical, stirring the horror pot with generous servings of societal critique and unnerving exploration of youthful transgressions. This maze of ethical quandaries and raw human desires promises to disturb and intrigue.

JT (Noah Segan) and Ricky (Shiloh Fernandez) stumble upon more than they bargained for in a decrepit psychiatric hospital, their shocking find—sparking a firestorm of moral debate. DEADGIRL doesn't go for the easy fright; instead, it delves into the murky waters of human nature, where the reflections of societal degradation are impossible to ignore. The directors, Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel opt for a narrative rich in symbolism, serving a side of satire with their horror entrée. This isn't full of just jump scares, but a marathon of introspection, crafted for those who prefer their horror served with depth.

JT and Ricky are ordinary teens entangled in extraordinary circumstances. Their responses to their macabre discovery diverge sharply, setting the stage for a study of contrasts. The unfolding drama is more than a horror show; it's a societal examination through an extreme lens. And as the circle of those in the know widens, DEADGIRL raises the stakes, constructing a grotesque experience with the captive at its nucleus.

However, of course, DEADGIRL has its shortcomings. The visual storytelling lacks the polish and potency that horror fans might expect, and the narrative pacing could use a shot of adrenaline. This is a study of indie horror diving into the depths of what it can do to stretch the genre. I would have liked to see more depth to our cast, leaning deeper into their “why” and where they came from, and a character study showing the triggers.

Yet, DEADGIRL has a stubborn uniqueness and audacity that keep it present in the viewer's mind. It boldly explores societal decay and the dark corners of human nature. While it might not meet every horror fan's criteria, it etches an indelible mark, presenting an unfiltered, compelling portrayal of a generation adrift.

DEADGIRL sidesteps neat endings, choosing instead the messiness of reality, a world of consequences left dangling and questions left haunting. It's a fitting conclusion for a narrative that thrives on challenging comfort zones, inviting the audience to a debate long after the credits roll.

DEADGIRL, with its blend of horror and thought, manages to hold its ground despite its flaws. It's an unsettling, enduring entry into the genre, demanding attention and challenging perceptions. This is a stark invitation to look deeper into our societal abyss, challenging viewers to confront uncomfortable truths while lost in its horrifying maze.
