Summer Fun in Area Parks

The beginning of summer always brings excitement to our small towns because of the nice weather and break before the next school year. Without school to fill the time during the days for the children in our community, what is there to do? Our local park districts have you covered! Here is what each town has to offer:

Stanford: They have a playground park and swimming pool. The pool has open swimming and swimming lessons available. They are open from 12 to 8pm. Entry is $4 unless it is 5-8pm, then it is $3. They also have Stanford Good Ole Days, which is the third weekend in July. There will be fireworks. Finally, there is a library in Stanford that is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at varying times.

Danvers: There is a playground located on E Main St. Danvers also hosts Danvers Days in August, where there are carnival rides, food, and lots of fun events. Danvers’ Township Library has a summer reading program available to kids.

Atlanta: Atlanta has a pool that is open Tuesday through Saturday 12-6pm, with $4 admission. Atlanta will have fireworks on July 3rd at the ball diamonds. They will begin at dusk. Their park has a new playground thanks to a grant from State Farm! Atlanta Park District has a back-to-school movie night planned for the end of summer (date pending). It will start at about 8:30pm.

McLean: Mt Hope-Funks Grove Park District building is located at 107 N West St, McLean, IL. There is a fitness center, gym, rooms to rent, and lots of classes and events for all ages at the building. There is also playground equipment to play on! There will be fireworks on June 26th at dusk to celebrate Independence Day.

Hopedale: Hopedale has a park with playground equipment and lots of green space to play in. There is a 9-hole disc golf course to the west of the Hopedale Wellness Center.

Minier: There is a park by the school and a new park on the west side of town. The new park has a paved walking trail, picnic tables, disc golf, and soccer fields. Minier also has their annual Minier Corn Daze event in early August. There are lots of fun events that you won’t want to miss!

Armington: Armington has a park area with a pavilion!
