OHS Weekly Sports Recap

Going 3 for 4, the Girls Basketball team has had a busy week. They started off at Peoria Manual where they won 57-33 on Saturday the 22nd. Then on Monday, they got a tough loss against St. Joseph Ogden 40-50. They then faced East Peoria on Tuesday, winning 59-20, and then faced Pontiac and won 61-48. Also, this week senior Taylor Nowaskie, who just recently passed the 1,000 point mark for high school career points scored, has now passed her mom, Mandy (Bryan) Nowaskie, and has taken over the #2 spot on the All-Time Girls Basketball Career Scoring List.

The Boys Basketball team played competitively in their three games for this week. On Monday they won against Illini Central 61-46 and then on Tuesday, they won against Rantoul 67-59. Friday the boys played well, taking the lead in the 3rd quarter against Paxton Buckley-Ioda but couldn’t seem to pull it through and ended up losing 46-41. 

The Boys Wrestling has had a successful season and continued this success in their meet against Morton at home where they beat them 51-22. This night was also Senior Night for the team. The seniors this year are Austin Swan, Carter Phillips, and Rogelio Hernandez. Regionals for the team are coming up next Saturday, so hopefully, they can keep their success going and make it to Sectionals which is hosted at Olympia this year.

The Boys Swim team once again had many personal records broken throughout the week. They competed in two meets this week, one against Metamora on Tuesday and the other against Jacksonville Routt on Thursday. At Metamora, the team had a lot of success. Neil Alford finished 1st in the 100-yard Breaststroke and set a new personal best in the 500-yard Freestyle. Noah Wheeler, Jayson Michel, Gage Hunt-Schroers, Logan Farquhar, and Tim Brenneman all also set their own new personal best in the 100-yard Freestyle Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. Additionally, Noah Wheeler also set a personal best in the 100-yard Backstroke.
