I had heard the whispers of this film coming, and I hadn’t looked too hard into it. That is until I saw the 4k import from Germany being available for pre-order on one of my favorite websites. The cover just spoke to me; there was something special about it that I couldn’t put the finger on it. The cover was straightforward, but I knew there was something special inside. Thankfully I was given access to an early screener before the film makes its debut on Shudder this Thursday.
We were given something special here, something that I feel like we can look back on in years and know that this was a memorable experience. The movie tackles the zombie genre in a new way that I wasn’t expecting. The film is mainly about a plague that turns its victims into deranged, bloodthirsty sadists and the chances of survival against them. The pure rage, violence, and gore were such a welcome addition that most modern horror holds back on. Not to mention the thought that constantly resides in the back of my head now whenever I watch a film that has anything to do with a pandemic, plague, etc.
Sometimes you need a movie that you can just sit back and enjoy; I used this same argument for enjoying all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Fast & the Furious franchise. These films have a fantastic base because they let you enjoy them for what they are. This new zombie film is no different, it may not be the most innovative or most profound film I’ve ever seen, but it was pure and unbridled fun. Watching zombies go crazy makes for a beautiful afternoon; remember that these aren’t your traditional zombies. These are just a bit different from what you’re used to, I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I’m sure it’ll shock most when they realize what I’m referring to.
I will forever be a fan of the horror genre because it allows me to escape reality. After watching so many films on such terrible subjects as climate change, war, fundamental human rights, etc., this was a welcome rest for my brain. I realize that these are stories of imagination and not real life; sometimes, that’s just what one needs to sit back and enjoy the day.

Ugh… I am leaving a comment to say I appreciate your honesty in your review.. But for me I will not watch this movie. From the information I have been provided. I think that this film went to the very dark places just because. It didn’t really hold a lot of true value added to the movie. It was pure shock value. Now I love movies like “I spit on your grave” because yes it goes to a dark place with SA but it was needed for the plot and story telling of the movie. The parts in the sadness that went there really didn’t need to be there… And its not because I am a soft. I love love all the blood and gores I can get. But there is a line with SA of .. does showing it add value or shock.
