RAVING REVIEW: “The power of Christ compels you!” It compels you to check this out whenever you can. An exorcism film that takes the genre and flips it on its head.

In my years (and years) of watching films, I’ve seen A LOT of exorcism movies, and while they traditionally offer up a few good scares, most fall flat when they repeat the same thing that’s been done time and time again. That’s not the case here; between some vividly realistic acting and some incredibly well-done (and well-placed CGI), we get a solid take on the genre that left me with goosebumps far more than I’m used to.

I wasn’t familiar with most of the cast and crew of the film, except for Fiona Dourif (THE BLACKLIST, CHUCKY), the daughter of CHILD’S PLAY legend Brad Dourif. Let me tell you; the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this family. However, Fiona doesn’t rely on her dad’s fame; she has blazed a trail of her own, and this is, without a doubt, my favorite role that I’ve seen her in.

There is something to be said for a film like this when you watch it and can’t get an image out of your head. There was a moment (I won’t spoil it) when one of the actors in the film was being “assaulted” by the entity, and that entire scene left me speechless. While the film could’ve cheaped out and taken the easy route, they went hard instead. From a visual perspective, it was probably the most chilling scene I’ve seen since the kitchen scene in PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3.

Several moments throughout the film genuinely felt like I was watching a documentary about this team of “ghost hunters” instead of a fictional story about them.

I’m new to Outsider Pictures (the company distributing the film), but this is an incredible way to start! I’ll be covering another film for them next week called THE OTHER TOM.
