RAVING REVIEW: Welcome to FIORETTA, a mesmerizing historical escapade that's not just a documentary—it's an experience! Director Matthew Mishory offers a dazzling blend of raw emotion, riveting narratives, and finesse. In the film, I witnessed an intimate portrayal of father and son Randy and Joey Schoenberg as they traced their ancestral roots. The blend of history and heartfelt connections makes for a riveting watch!

Our duo encounters characters that leave a mark from Austria to Italy. Notably, Fioretta's saga provides a narrative depth about your family history and those closest to you. As the journey progresses, we're privy to the poignant tales of Europe's Jewish communities with historical figures. Their narratives act as guideposts, shedding light on the intricate pathways of the past. This story shows a generational tale that helps you explore what it means to understand your past, present, and even future and what it means to your family.

I’ve always been interested in genealogy for most of my life after a high school history project; on a personal note, I found out I’m related in the distant past to Sir Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing, and the Tiffany family (think the stained glass lamps.) I would have never known these had I not put the effort into my family tree, and it’s incredible, if you dig deep enough, what connections can be made. Sure, these examples are just fun and exciting, but the genealogy in this film is legitimately historical finds.

Director Matthew Mishory shines from a cinematic standpoint. FIORETTA offers more than just visuals; it's an intricately choreographed dance of storytelling techniques. Those unfamiliar with his previous ventures are in for a delightful surprise with the innovative filming methods deployed here. Every scene in the film is plotted and intentional in its display on the screen.

But where FIORETTA truly touches the soul is in its universal appeal. It underscores our innate quest to unearth our origins and the power of tales from bygone eras to shape our present. The Schoenbergs' pursuit isn't just their story—it's every person's ode to discovering their roots. I love the tale of passing along these essential pieces of history that so often get overlooked.

FIORETTA shows how to intertwine personal sagas and broader historical narratives. A treat for the historian, the sentimental family member, or the casual viewer seeking a touching tale, FIORETTA promises a journey that echoes in the heart long after the final scene fades. Be warned, if you haven’t thought about your family's history, you will by the end of this film!
