RAVING REVIEW: Something that I wasn’t expecting at all. Although to be fair, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, which made the ride so fun.

I had initially guessed a mix between SWEENY TODD and SUCKER PUNCH based purely on the film's stills. In his review, Neil Young of Screen Daily compares it to a mix of THE THIRD MAN and SE7EN. Honestly, it was a little bit of all that rolled into one, a visual spectacle with a serious tone to it all.

My only real knock is that I feel like they may have stretched themselves a little further than they should’ve. The heavy use of CGI that gave the film its unique style also sometimes held it back a little. I say this about horror films all the time; while this isn’t horror, the same rules apply. A movie must work within the confines of your abilities and/or budget.

I was impressed with the cast; they worked well together and fit the film's story. They never felt out of place or distracting at times; some films will have a specific cast member or two that just weren’t meant for the world they were acting in.

Even though some moments took me out of the film a little bit, the overall experience was quite enjoyable. I enjoyed the story and, maybe, more importantly, the journey the characters took to get to where they were going. I liked the slight twist on history so that the film could occupy its timeline; ultimately, that made it feel like a story out of time.

Reading the reviews for this on IMDb was hilarious; while this isn’t about the film, it was amusing to see how much a fictional take on a movie can upset people.
