A generic take on a classic story, unfortunately, the film is overly cut and dry without anything extra. It’s not a terrible experience but doesn’t offer anything new or exciting.

I’m generally a fan of Lucy Hale (“Pretty Little Liars,” “Life Sentence”), especially her TV performances. It seems as though the script for the film may have been the biggest issue. Generally speaking, I try not to be too hard on movies that I know what I’m getting into ahead of time. At no point did I see this and expect Oscar-caliber writing; that doesn’t excuse the blandness.

I won't blame anyone if you want something to put on in the background while scrolling through your phone. It’s not a bad movie, but it's just a by-the-numbers comedy/romance that felt more like a made-for-TV release.

As his fourth film, director Peter Hutchings delivers anything but a breakthrough film. Two of his movies even have posters with nearly identical layouts (not that they can be judged for that, but it still seemed odd.)

I would be curious to hear if anyone has read the novel by Sally Thorne; I know the consensus is that books are always better than movies. I can’t imagine that isn’t the case here; if the novel was good enough that someone thought it would make a good film, there must be a reason!

Okay, now that I’m done being overly critical, I need to remind everyone that these are just my thoughts and experiences. It doesn’t mean that this is a terrible movie; it doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy it. One of the most important things I want anyone reading my reviews to remember is that it's always important to experience films for yourself. If there’s something that you think may appeal to you about a movie, then, by all means, watch it and never let anyone tell you that your thoughts or feelings on it are wrong.
