There’s something about a documentary that just draws my interest. The film tells the story of San Francisco’s gay “all-male” revue, and it does so in such a way that everything you see on screen just makes you appreciate the hard work and determination that this group puts into their program regularly! This was a heartwarming story about love, social commentary, fantasy, and just flat-out expressing oneself.

“The film offers humor and insight into the ways in which gay men continue to navigate the coming out process, dating, and masculinity, as well as the challenges that come with 21st-century urban life, sex industry work, pornography, and trauma.” — Joshua Guerci.

I had to borrow that snippet from this review summary because those words say it better than I could ever hope to. The most important thing I could get across in this review is that this is a story of humans. A story about people in the modern-day who are getting by day to day just like so many of us. Too often, a film like this will be turned into a story about “this or that,” but ultimately, every documentary, regardless of its subject, has an important story to tell us all.

Seeing the joy these performances can bring ultimately makes my day better. I think it’s incredible that there are so many different forms of art to express stories. While not all of the documentary is positive and uplifting, the majority does focus on the positive side of the show and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into it, including the inclusion of a straight male and a woman in the show. I think it's essential to bring that up, only because the reverse was such an enormous hill to climb, yet this happened without much effort.

This is the one for you if you’re looking for an exciting story about a behind-the-scenes look into a world that many don’t know about. I think we must be open to new things, especially in film, during this month and every month! Sometimes all it takes is opening your eyes to a unique experience or learning about something new that could make all the difference to so many people.
