RAVING REVIEW: THE PRIMEVALS sparked an electrifying buzz at the Fantasia Film Festival's global premiere. This artistic endeavor is the fruit of late visual effect sorcerer David Allen's tireless labor, reflecting his unwavering commitment to stop-motion animation. His long-harbored dream project, THE PRIMEVALS, started under the watchful guidance of Full Moon Features' commander-in-chief, Charles Band. With the sudden passing of Allen in 1999, the project was halted mid-flight.

Now, THE PRIMEVALS emerges as a monument of respect to the celluloid sagas of Ray Harryhausen, captivating audiences with its intricate storyline and immersive stop-motion animation. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering dedication of Band and Chris Endicott, Allen's trusted ally, who carried forward his legacy.

In the world of television and cinema, Allen has left indelible footprints with his enchanting stop-motion creatures that graced screens in YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES, WILLOW, PUPPET MASTER, and HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS. THE PRIMEVALS was his ambitious platform to demonstrate his expansive abilities. After a break of almost 24 years, the project sprang back to life thanks to the relentless efforts of Endicott and Band.

THE PRIMEVALS paints a vivid narrative against the majestic canvas of the Himalayas. When Sherpas eliminates an unknown creature, Dr. Claire Collier (Juliet Mills) gets hold of its remains. Suspecting it to be a Yeti, she assembled an expedition team, including her former student Matthew Connor (Richard Joseph Paul) and experienced hunter Rondo Montana (Leon Russom).

Imbibing the charm of classic cinema and literature, THE PRIMEVALS weaves elements of adventure, wonder, vivid characters, and creatures brought to life with Allen's distinct stop-motion prowess. Filmed against the breathtaking landscapes of Romania and the Italian Alps, the movie traces the adrenaline-filled quest led by Dr. Collier and Matthew Connor. Their search for the Yeti in Nepal unravels a mystical world of more than anyone was ready for.

After a gripping start with the Yeti wreaking havoc among the locals, the movie shifts gears to unravel the backgrounds and motivations of the team. The real scene-stealer of THE PRIMEVALS is the breathtaking stop-motion animation. Every creature's attention to detail and artistic passion is a testament to Allen's skill and commitment.

The essence of THE PRIMEVALS is drenched in nostalgia and a deep appreciation for the craft of stop-motion animation, making it an engaging viewing experience. It's a heartfelt reminder of the storytelling power of practical effects in an era dominated by CGI spectacle.

The movie offers an irresistible cocktail of stunning animation, exquisite sets, and convincing performances, making the 45-year wait worthwhile. David Allen was a wizard with an unlimited imagination. His film is a nostalgic nod to the magic of cinema that reminds us why we love movies. Take the chance to experience this captivating spectacle. First mentioned in a Cinefantastique issue in 1978, this movie feels like a long-buried treasure.
