First, I don’t share spoilers; I often say this, but I felt it was extra important for this review. I had watched the trailer and wasn’t impressed by it, and I was hoping that the film had some great surprises for me.
So, I’m going to start by saying that I loved Jordan Peele’s dive into horror, his 2017 film GET OUT, and, to a slightly lesser degree, his 2019 follow-up film US. I thought they were both brilliantly written, had excellent social commentary, and wonderfully unique twists.
As I mentioned previously, I wasn’t impressed with the trailer for NOPE. Sadly the film didn’t change my opinion at all. Before I go into the negative, I will say that I realize many people enjoy this, and that’s okay. Cinema would be pretty dull if we all agreed on the same thing all the time. So as I always say, don’t take my word for it; watch it for yourself and see what you think.
I will say that Daniel Kaluuya (BLACK PANTHER, GET OUT) is a remarkable actor and was fantastic in this. Unfortunately, I feel it was all for nothing in this film; while there were a lot of great moments, I feel like it all led to nothing, unfortunately. There was potential throughout the film; I think many great “realizations” could’ve led to something incredible. Instead, it just seemed to all lead to this dead end that just missed the mark for me.
The part of the film I disliked the most was somewhat of a surprise but also what I expected with a slight twist. It’s hard to explain without giving anything away; I was hoping that what I suspected wouldn’t be the case the entire time. However, it ended up playing out how I was worried it would.
I think what the film lacked the most was that it didn’t have the same level of creativity or twists that his first two did. Ultimately I hope that this will just be a hiccup in Joran Peele’s filmography for me and that whatever he does next will bring me back to what I loved so much.

Jordan Peele coming out with another masterpiece. Definitely a good body horror.
It was luke warm to me. I had a really hard time paying attention and it keeping my attention. I really enojyed Get out and Us but this one was just a miss for me. Sometimes I feel like in modern horror we just try to hard to be different then do what works.
I agree that’s a Nope from me as well. I didnt care for US and hoped that would be his weakest film but then he dropped this
