It Doesn’t Take a Big Budget to Make a Fun Movie

There are low-budget films, and then there are no-budget films. Realistically, money was invested in this; it’s almost impossible to make a film with no budget, but a movie like this isn’t even considered “low-budget.” This is what you get when a group of people get together and have a desire to tell a story. I was lucky to be following Dylan Mars Greenberg, who wore many hats in this film's production and had a staring role. Last year I decided to watch every Amityville Horror film (there are now over 40 of them); in my journey, I discovered AMITYVILLE: VANISHING POINT, a film that opened my eyes to what experimental films are. Greenberg directed it, and I’ve followed their career closely since watching it.

The surprise in this film was the star Kaatia Fedrow who shined while on screen; something about the performance was electric. This was their first and only acting role, but they could command the attention on screen from start to finish. I would say that 98% of this film was a story with traditional filmmaking storytelling, with a few moments throughout that seemed to be there for some experimental shock value. That’s not bad; it catches you a little off-guard while watching the film.

The film has a pretty enticing premise as we see someone come face to face with a group of acquaintances obsessed with the game “Psychic Vampire,” almost to the point of cult-like behavior. I found the idea intriguing; while you can tell that these are performances, you can also almost get lost in the film to the point where it feels like a documentary. There were some teasers at the end of the film that I would enjoy seeing play out in another movie. I would like to see what they could do to continue this story.
