What a blast; in a nutshell, “REBOOT is about the dysfunctional cast of an early 2000's hit sitcom, STEP RIGHT UP, who must face their unresolved issues and navigate social media cancel culture when a young writer pitches a reboot of their show.”

I found the series a fantastic mix of modern topical comedy with just the right touch of classic single-camera comedies from the past. While the series is listed as a comedy, there are plenty of series moments in it. There was also something special about this cast; a group that you usually wouldn’t think of together somehow ends up with perfect timing.

I was impressed with the mixture of topics covered in a relatively short series. The casting made this possible; with the additions of Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, and Judy Greer, you would think that the comedy would be the only focus. However, all three show their range when tackling some powerful moments. Interestingly, Paul Reiser, Rachel Bloom, Calum Worthy, and Krista Marie Yu all seemed to have as much focus as the main three top-billed cast. The series wouldn’t have been nearly as successful without the entire cast.

Early on, there is a moment in the very first episode that caught me by surprise. I didn’t have an issue with it, but it made the series feel far different than I thought it would be. Perhaps the oddest part of it was that it was the only moment like it in the series. It educated me that Hulu had more adult content than I knew. Most of what I watch on Hulu were things I already knew about, so this was an educational moment for me.

Leslie Bibb was supposed to play the character that Judy Greer ended up playing. At first glance, I think I would’ve preferred Bibb, but after seeing the series, I can’t picture anyone other than Greer in the role!
