RAVING REVIEW: ALIEN OUTLAW (see THE DARK POWER KINO CULT #3 for his first film) is a daring venture into uncharted cinematic territory. Director Phil Smoot crafts an indie film that deftly blends crew members into on-screen roles, creating a unique fusion of behind-the-scenes and on-camera talent. Front and center is Jesse Jamison (Kari Anderson,) whose seamless transition from the world of dance to the rugged terrain of acting is a feat in itself. The film further enriches its narrative by including Western film legends Lash La Rue and Sunset Carson, melding traditional Western charm with a new, unexplored dimension.

In this world, we see dusty trails of the Wild West unexpectedly converge with the mysteries of outer space in ALIEN OUTLAW. This narrative journey transports viewers to the scenic, untouched landscapes of North Carolina, where the film artfully intertwines classic Western motifs with the thrills of science fiction. Central to this tale is the character Jesse, brought to life by Anderson, a talented performer whose aspirations are derailed by an unforeseen alien threat.

Smoot helms this cinematic ship with a vision of revitalizing the sci-fi Western genre. Though the plot navigates through familiar alien invasion territory, it is laced with some refreshing deviations from standard action movie tropes. Smoot’s narrative is not just about extraterrestrial confrontation; it delves deep into the moral complexities surrounding firearm ownership, a theme echoed in Jesse's character development.

In ALIEN OUTLAW, Western cinema icons add layers of authenticity, blending seamlessly with the film's rustic aesthetic. However, while the action scenes are executed well, they fall short of the adrenaline-fueled spectacles expected from a film straddling sci-fi and Western genres.

Anderson’s portrayal of Jesse is a standout element. She infuses her character with a relatable depth and complexity, navigating through her aspirations and the stark realities of the entertainment industry. The supporting cast, including the experienced La Rue and Carson, add their unique flavors to the mix, navigating through a script that, while limited, allows their talents to shine.

The film’s exploration of themes such as ambition and the quest for fame adds a poignant human touch set against an intergalactic crisis. These elements are intricately woven into Jesse's interactions, showcasing her unwavering determination to succeed amidst extraordinary circumstances.

Staying true to its indie spirit, ALIEN OUTLAW shuns the polish of high-budget productions in favor of a more authentic, grounded approach. The cinematography and special effects, though modest, effectively support the film's narrative. The action sequences, sparse yet impactful, resonate with a raw, indie charm. There’s no doubt that this is a B movie, but sometimes, that charm of a passion project brought to life is everything a film needs to be entertaining.

ALIEN OUTLAW stands out as an intriguing amalgamation of genres. Its blend of action, character-driven storytelling, and insightful commentary on contemporary issues like fame and firearm responsibility create a compelling and engaging narrative. While it may not boast the glitz of a mainstream blockbuster, it firmly establishes itself as a distinctive entry in the indie film genre. Anderson’s performance, coupled with contributions from some seasoned actors, elevates the film, marking it as a notable achievement in independent cinema.
