Not long ago, I thought about how legendary James Bond is and how I anticipate every Bond film released. Then I tried to think if I had seen every Bond film, but I honestly couldn’t remember. So many ran into each other, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I just wanted to ensure I had seen everything before the next chapter was released. I’m excited to see where they will take the films and that character; I think the sky is the limit.
I enjoyed how much this film defined Bond; while he’s changed a ton over the years, this laid the groundwork for who he is, from his cars, devices, and Bond girls to sayings. Of course, a lot of this came from the book, but without Sean Connery and the iconic moments of this film, it could've ended up so different. What would the series be without “Bond, James Bond”?
DR. NO impressed me because the film seemed ahead of its time. Of course, it's pretty dated now, but the effects were generally sound, and the story held up relatively well. There were a lot of “stereotypes” and some moments that made you feel a bit uncomfortable. That’s just part of watching older films, though.
I think this will be an exciting trip, and I’m even watching the two “unofficial” Bond films NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN and 1967’s CASINO ROYALE. While these aren’t part of the official Bond canon, I felt it was important to add them as they’re still Bond films.
My goal is to watch every Bond film, I’ll be watching one a week, so I should finish up in late March with NO TIME TO DIE. Next week it will be FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE which I don’t think I’ve seen, but I won’t remember for sure until I’m into it.
