From the vineyards of California, living under the constant threat of wildfires, to the tight-knit farming towns of Nebraska and the unique Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in New York, the film underscores volunteer fire departments’ integral role in their communities.

The film offers an assortment of characters, such as Barbara, a grandmother doubling as an EMT; Jaime, a man who found a renewed purpose after joining the fire service; and Madely, a Salvadoran immigrant student juggling her schoolwork with a selfless commitment to saving lives. By weaving in these narratives, the film breaks down barriers and shines a spotlight on the rich diversity within the ranks of volunteer firefighting.
