RAVING REVIEW: It’s incredible how much heart can be put into just 14 minutes. With a little bit of drama mixed in with comedy, the power of direction and writing are on display here.
I don’t want to give anything away here; this was a fantastic short film that keeps you guessing most of the 14-minute runtime. The film's synopsis reads, “After being stuck with the guardianship of their annoying, bookworm nephew, two brothers in Compton CA have to decide if they are willing to take on the responsibility of being caretakers.”
I could easily see this being expanded into a full-length feature. While there was an interesting twist in the short, I think it could be expanded on or taken in a different direction for the longer runtime. There was a lot of potential with the story here; I was curious how the story would play out beyond what we get to see.
Director/writer Victor K. Gabriel has directed another short and helped write it and one other. I will be checking those out when I get the opportunity. I’m excited to see what Gabriel does in the future!
