One of the most moving films that I can remember seeing; even though I felt like I knew I’d enjoy it, this was an absolute awakening. So much of that is thanks to the performance of Garance Marillier, the lead in the film (who also had a role in the director's follow-up film. While overall, the entire cast was stellar, Marillier’s performance carried the film.

This film isn’t for the faint of heart; while it’s not entirely over the top, I’m sure many would find it a bit much for them. I found it to be the perfect mix of crazy yet also grounded at the same time. It’s essential to be able to watch a film with an open mind. You never know what you’ll like if you don’t give it a shot.

Sadly, director Julia Ducournau’s follow-up TITANE wasn’t nearly the same for me. I’m in the minority here, but I wasn’t as into the film as I was with this one. I’ve never been a fan of “weird” for no other reason than being weird, and I felt that TITANE strayed a bit too far in that direction. RAW, though, felt like there was the reasoning behind each moment and each change throughout.

I was more than a little nervous diving into this initially, I heard great things about it, but I was a bit gun shy after disliking TITANE. Thankfully I was proven very wrong and can’t wait to see Ducournau's next film! (whatever that may end up being)
