Alison Brie (COMMUNITY,) Aubrey Plaza (SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED,) Debby Ryan (INSATIABLE,) and Molly Shannon (SUPERSTAR)!!! What could go wrong? Well, it’s not so much what goes wrong as just not meeting the incredible potential with a cast of some of Hollywood’s best and brightest.

When I saw this cast, I was instantly hooked. Brie is the film's real star; she’s the main focus and delivers a solid performance, with a bit more seriousness than I’d prefer for a comedy. Two weeks in a row with two releases from Aubrey Plaza can’t get better than that. In short, I enjoyed this, but I think that it could’ve gone above and beyond.

Things go a little bit off the rail at one point during the film, which feels incredibly out of place for me. It took me out of the film, and I was stuck wondering if it was necessary. If you watch the film, you’ll likely instantly know what part I’m talking about. Beyond that, though, the movie was pretty enjoyable. This was a simple story but one with enough complexity that makes you stick around to see what’s next.

If you haven’t seen HORSE GIRL, I would highly recommend it, a crazy name but a fascinating and unique film!. One of the most exciting things I found while researching the film is that Director Jeff Baena (Aubrey Plaza’s husband) also co-wrote HORSE GIRL with Brie (they also co-wrote this.) Baena also directed a film called THE LITTLE HOURS, I haven’t seen it yet, but the premise looked so incredible I had to buy it.

A bit random, but I feel like there could be a little shared universe created with Baena, Brie, and Plaza; working together on so many projects creates a pretty interesting connection and variations across the films.
