RAVING REVIEW: A movie that combines the strains of faltering relationships with the unpredictable suspense of uninvited guests, Jared Allmond’s THE HIVE is the title to take that daring plunge, challenging storytelling norms. Albie and Penny, portrayed with rawness by Timothy Haug and Christie Griffin, hope for a peaceful evening to reconnect. Their idyllic dreams, however, are interrupted by unexpected visitors, turning their sanctuary into a suspense-filled scene straight out of your darkest nightmares.

While THE HIVE is a concoction of emotions and eerie suspense, the genuine portrayal of a couple's dynamics amidst these adversities takes center stage. Every corner they turn, every sound they hear amplifies the cracks in their already fragile bond.

Penny's sister, Kimmy (Whitney Reade,) becomes involved as they navigate this unexpected chaos. Their combined objective is to unveil the true identity of these unexpected guests. But as they get deeper into the plot, the stakes rise, and so does the audience's heartbeat.

Emerging from the turmoil, Albie takes the reins, trying to lead them out of the maze. His efforts, commendable as they are, introduce fresh rifts in their bond. Penny, in a swirl of emotions, evaluates the depth of their connection amidst these trying times. An unexpected twist links these mysterious invaders to familiar faces, making us question the essence of trust. Who's the real enemy here?

THE HIVE explores universal relationship hurdles. It captures how the most unexpected external challenges, even those bordering on the supernatural, can stir up underlying relationship rifts. It mirrors how tangible and intangible fears can shape a relationship.

Allmond's twist on the horror-thriller genre resonates with anxieties surrounding trust and commitment. As we journey with Albie and Penny, we're thrust into a passion, faith, and resilience narrative. Their tale, filled with unexpected turns and emotional avalanches, reflects love in its most tested form.

After the credits roll for THE HIVE, there's a lingering desire for introspection. Beyond its suspenseful ambiance, the narrative compels viewers to assess the depths of their relationships. This isn't just about the jump scares or the eerie silences; it's a poignant portrayal of unchecked misunderstandings and dwindling trust.

In conclusion, THE HIVE isn't your everyday thriller. While it offers a good dose of suspense, its true essence lies in exploring love and trust amidst the chaos. Though the home invasion theme isn't my favorite, and certain parts felt rough around the edges, THE HIVE still made me think in the end, which is one of the most important things a movie can do. Ultimately, it felt like the lower-budget horror/thriller that it is, but it also rose above itself at times.
