RAVING REVIEW: Yes, I gave this four stars because it’s the rare exception to the rule, a film that knows what it is and leaned entirely into it.
When I’m unfamiliar with a movie, I dive into it as blindly as possible. I had heard of this title in passing, but I didn’t know anything about it beyond this new release of the cover. Director Jeff Lieberman (SQUIRM, BLUE SUNSHINE, JUST BEFORE DAWN) takes his opportunity to tell this story and runs full force into a mix of genres combing horror, comedy, and craziness all in one. I’m genuinely excited to check out his previous feature film, 1988s REMOTE CONTROL, which I received entirely unrelated to this from Full Moon a few weeks ago.
Starring a trio of “funtastic” actors that are the perfect amount of over the top. Amanda Plummer (THE FISHER KING, PULP FICTION,) Katheryn Winnick (VIKINGS, BONES,) and Alexander Brickel combine to make this a gratifying experience. Plummer and Brickel play these roles to perfection, adding an awkwardness that makes you fall under the spell of this film. On the other hand, Winnick plays the part very straight to the point where she almost seems like the “weird one.”
This is the type of film that midnight spooky seasons are made for! The movie offers a comedic take on a dark comedy with plenty of twists and turns that, while predictable, are just as enjoyable. Honestly, the film’s deeper narrative makes it much more intriguing; when it was released initially, video games were still a hot-button topic, and this plays with the idea of if they can lead to dangers for children in a unique way.
I was left with the credits rolling on this one in awe; I know deep down that it was a b-movie, but something almost hypnotic about it kept me locked into it more than I expected.

I love when a horror movie doesn’t take itself to seriously and owns the comedic elements it has.
I actually own this and love this film
