This isn’t your standard retelling of historical events; it’s a twist on what a satire can be. Very little of the film is based on anything in reality. While it touches on the events of the Watergate scandal, it also dives into a world that is there just for fun. The story within a story sometimes overpowered what we were here for, but no one said this would be purely a story about just the moments of Nixon and his scandal.

You should be well prepared for anything but the norm with Lloyd Kaufman, Ted Raimi, and Bruce Campbell. The film's cast was fantastic, and I think they all embodied their characters perfectly. Someone in a review pointed out that Bruce Campbell didn’t sound like Nixon, and that’s where I think many people missed the point here. This wasn’t meant to be a live-action retelling of the Watergate scandal. If that’s what you’re looking for, I would suggest ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN, THE FINAL DAYS, NIXON, DICK, FROST/NIXON, and others. This was a play on the story without being dragged down by meticulous attention to detail. Instead, it was in the shadow of the scandal and could be its own creature because of that.

Make sure that when you go into a new film, never take it for what it is, especially if it isn’t a documentary. I need to mention that this was a fantastic-looking film; the style, visuals, sets, clothing, everything just made you feel like you were exactly where you were supposed to be.

I’m not familiar with director Dan Mirvish’s other films, but if this is anything to go off of, I’m sure they’re unique in their storytelling. If you’ve seen any, please contact me and let me know if there are any I should check out.
