RAVING REVIEW: One of the most pleasant surprises I can remember seeing. I had no specific expectations of what this film would be, but I’ve learned never to question a Second Sight release.
The film was not a massive success on its initial release; thankfully, it’s grown into getting a larger and larger following, and now I’ve enjoyed it too. This perfect storm of a great cast, fantastic direction and writing culminated in a film I am so happy I got to experience.
This rides the line between a thriller and a horror film; while I think they can generally be interchangeable, they can also have distinct differences simultaneously. This was a very stylish film, even if the director can sometimes joke about the set designs. Watching the newly color-graded 4k release made the experience even better.
I’ve seen people commenting that this is a B movie, and I don’t see that in any way, shape, or form; if you feel like it is, please let me know your reasoning for that way of thinking. I think the film was a throwback to some of the 80s action films in its style but was very much a modern film with a unique feel.
Rotten Tomatoes has a significantly higher critic score than the audience score. Generally speaking, action films tend to be reversed. I like that most of the comments point out that the film is intelligent enough to parallel the dark and violent moments in the movie.
