RAVING REVIEW: The story behind our memories that we’ve forgotten and the life they live after us. When you toss something in the trash or call the junkman to take it away, your story ends there; however, there’s another world that most never see.
This film is about the reality of where our trash goes, the positives and negatives of its life when you’re done with it. When you think about the perspective, things take a different turn. We often will toss aside items we deem useless once we no longer need them or have a newer one to replace them. Most of what is thrown away ends up in landfills which is problematic enough, but what happens when there’s too much from buses, ships, phone booths, cars, and more?
SCRAP takes us on a journey to the heroes behind the scenes that often go unnoticed. They breathe a second life into things that most wouldn’t look twice at. Making literal art from things most wouldn’t look at twice. While the story we see is a beautiful tale of redemption, the reality is that there is so much more we don’t get to see. Even within the confines of the film, we only see a small amount of the endless graveyards of scrap.
This is a battle with no easy answer, a question not just about you recycling your cell phone but more about how we as a planet will move on when we’ve overtaken the earth with our junk. When we don’t see these heaping mounds of broken-down vehicles and old TV sets, the problem doesn’t hit home, but it’s only a matter of time before nature can only hide so much.
While this generation may not face the inevitable truth, a future generation will. In reality, there’s little that will change, those who fight these battles will keep trying to help one railway car at a time, but for every bus that gets a second lease on life, a “new” 747 is dropped in its place. So what is the answer? Is there an answer?
