RAVING REVIEW: As I write this, I’m still filled with anger, sorrow, and heartbreak for those that have fallen victim to this predatory organization that uses the guise of a religious organization to prey on so many.
I won’t lie; I had a hard time watching this, not because it was poorly made but because the content within was so painful to hear about. So many innocent victims had so many things taken from them that they would never be able to regain. All under the “words of these apostles” to give their families a better life, they gave up their lives in many ways.
The fact that I had never heard of this church didn’t surprise me. The interviews in this docuseries were so inspirational; these victims were able to recount stories of some of the most terrifying moments of their lives. Seeing these stories unfold, especially about such a large organization, was sometimes difficult to comprehend. The fact that they have gotten away with what they have for so long without any coverage is ridiculous.
The Christian church La Luz del Mundo (LLDM) is, at worst, a front for grooming children and, at best, another religious organization that has fed off its millions of followers since 1926. I have very little patience for organizations that do either of these. It’s heartbreaking to see so many taken advantage of with promises of eternal “this or that.” I don’t necessarily take issue with religion in general, but when stories like this continue to be unearthed, one can only ignore the obvious for so long.
People, especially children, are far more important than these multi-million dollar organizations that put on a cover—taking advantage physically and mentally of many that look to them for guidance.

Thank you Chris for such a raw response. Most of us felt exactly as you. Had a hard time watching but felt this should be in the top 10 for HBO.
Think: Weintein got 23 yrs. Ghislaine just for grooming got 20 yrs. This monster with hundreds of victims, sadly most in Mexico, got 16 yrs 8 months. Indeed, as the lawyer said the victims were of the wrong color. Worth educating our minds by watching the excellent work Jennifer pit together.
Yenni,
Thank you so much for the response! I genuinely appreciate it! How this isn’t being talked about more is beyond me. The system is so messed up; how they can excuse this for any reason is beyond me. Thankfully my review seems to have gotten a few more eyes on it than previously would have.
