Wow, I wasn't expecting the level of uncomfortableness that I had watching this. I mean that in the best possible way, I felt nerves while watching this were off the charts. The film dives into mental health via an homage to DONNIE DARKO. I love that it does this with no apologies; it doesn’t soften the blow and shows what mental health issues can be like. So much of the film makes you feel unhinged, keeping an eye out behind your back.

While I wasn’t familiar with the cast, they all performed admirably, although some moments felt like the story became too big for the moment. I appreciated that the story ultimately kept coming back to tackle the story about the hurdles that were presented. The team here could’ve taken the easy way out and wrote themselves out of a corner; instead, they faced these battles head-on.

This is director Addison Heimann’s first feature film, and you would never know outside of a few little road bumps. I am curious about what some of their other credits in their film and television work are like. While they didn’t write this, a director tends to put their stamp on anything they’re associated with in some way or another.

Trauma can do so much long-term damage to the point where it can cause unrepairable damage to your health. Taking care of yourself should always be the top priority; there’s only one you, and it’s okay to take time for yourself.

Just recently, the US has made its official suicide crisis line available. You can simply call 988, text, or message it to get help 24/7 in English or Spanish. This is a long overdue step, but I’m so glad it’s finally active.
