This one was a little all over the place, with a story that felt disjointed at best. There were some redeeming qualities throughout, though. While watching the film, I couldn’t help but think about Bruce Willis and his aphasia diagnosis. I was curious; it looks like Willis still has three more films yet to release (even though trivia on IMDb says this is his last.) I didn’t see anything noticeable about him that would raise a red flag, although his screen time in the film was pretty limited, considering he’s one of two characters on the poster.
The film was more a combination of Kevin Dillon (who has worked steadily since the mid-80s but often in side roles that you see but aren’t necessarily the center of attention) and Oliver Trevena. The film is billed as an action/thriller, but I’m not entirely sure it is fully committed to either. There were moments of both in the film, but they were broken up by longer stretches where it seemed like the film's narrative stalled out.
Some moments caught me off guard, specifically a home invasion scene that climaxed in a way I didn’t see coming. Something random about the film was that actress Larken Woodward has been in four feature films, and Bruce Willis has been in three. I couldn’t find a connection but thought that was interesting; it could be as simple as them both having the same agent.
The film’s story is pretty straightforward, almost to the point of feeling like something I’ve seen before, but I could not pinpoint exactly what that is. I don’t think most people would be upset after watching this, but I also don’t think it was groundbreaking. That’s why it falls right in the middle for me with a 2.5/5.
I haven’t seen many of Willis’ newer films, but I can only assume many follow this same style where he is billed but doesn’t have a huge role. Either way, I genuinely wish him well and hope he can enjoy retirement.
