RAVING REVIEW: This is an incredible coming-of-age story with twists, turns, and teenage turbulence while also being a compelling story for a more mature audience.

HIGH SCHOOL stars TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland in a series I initially had crossed feelings about. If you follow my page, you know I don’t research the films/series I’m covering more than I have to. This is amplified when I get something sent to me without any previous knowledge. That was the case when Freevee (previously IMDbTV), the ad-supported streaming service, sent me this new series.

Based on the 2019 memoir by twin sisters Sara and Tegan Quin of the Canadian indie pop group Tegan and Sara, the series tells the story of the twin's adolescence growing up in Alberta, Canada, and touches on what will be their musical career going forward.

As I alluded to earlier, I wasn’t sure what to expect when starting the series, and I am thrilled that I went in not knowing anything. This was a well-done series that balanced many different emotions, which helped to parallel the struggles and roller-coaster that is growing up. I think the twists in the series were so well done that they ultimately held more weight than I would’ve otherwise given.

My biggest surprise was easily the performances of Railey and Seazynn Gilliland. While I wasn’t familiar with their TikTok fame (even though I have my page on the platform,) they have quite the following, and if you’re familiar with them on there, you’ll want to check this series out. While I only skimmed through their page, they share some similarities but, in general, are very different from the performances given here. The film's narrative shared the same highs and lows as the source material it is based on while also delivering some comedic moments near perfection.
