This was an absolute blast! Loved pretty much everything about it. This was a cute story with some very well-done animation. Even though I’m not a huge fan of CGI animation, this one was able to win me over because it had the heart to the story too.

This proves when given the opportunity that, amazing things can be done. Director Peggy Holmes had previously directed THE LITTLE MERMAID: ARIEL'S BEGINNING and THE PIRATE FAIRY, both of which are continuations in established Disney properties. This time she created a beautiful original story that was hypnotic. With a writing team that has quite the pedigree, including screenwriters for CARS, TROLLS, and KUNG FU PANDA, the story was simple yet fun and emotional at the same time.

So far, this has been a pretty weak year for animation, although I enjoyed TURNING RED. Honestly, anymore animation has become one of my least favorite Oscar categories because Disney/Pixar has purchased the category. Sadly, so many great films get overlooked because of it. I don’t think this would win, but I would like to see it at least be nominated. Looking deeper, it doesn’t look like this is a frontrunner in the race, but things can still change! I won’t lie; I’m excited that Cartoon Saloon is also releasing another film this year, so fingers crossed!

While I’m not familiar with Eva Noblezada, who plays the lead Sam Greenfield, I was genuinely impressed! However, Simon Pegg as Bob may have been my favorite part, with an honorable mention of Jane Fonda as The Dragon. The entire cast combined to bring a heart and soul to these characters. I would love to see more of this entire universe; although I may be a little biased because I love all things Irish (as I’m a small percentage), this film is bleeding with Irish themes, accents, music, and more.
