April 20, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – Filmmakers Anna Maguire and Kyle Greenberg have announced their short film ‘HI! YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECORDED’ is now available to watch exclusively online at hiyouarecurrentlybeingrecorded.com. The stoner-surveillance-thriller stars Anna Maguire (Violation, With Love and a Major Organ) as ‘Anna’, on a trip to Los Angeles to visit a new flame… she finds herself lost, stoned and alone… or is she?

The online release, powered by Stupid Co and Assemble, follows a yearlong festival campaign with over two dozen selections across the globe featuring the likes of Fantasia, SXSW Sydney, The Downtown Festival, Kyiv International Short Film Festival, NOAM, Santa Fe International Film Festival, Chattanooga, ScreamFest and many more, including some recent March stops such as Final Girls Berlin and IFSAK in Istanbul.

Building on the loneliness, absurdity and the very real anxiety of a city terrified of anyone who might be venturing forth on foot, the low-fi ‘hybrid’ short bridges fact and fiction by presenting a woman plagued with paranoia in a security camera ridden neighborhood of Los Angeles.

“As we continue to question who’s watching, who’s being watched or, when does surveillance for ‘safety’ cross the line… we welcome in a whole new potential of being perceived,” Maguire and Greenberg said in a joint statement. “Releasing HI! YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECORDED online on our own terms, on our own site and in its own form as an ENDLESS LOOP felt like a fun challenge. We’re enjoying playing with the cinematic form and considering how we can reconnect with the ways in which art is disseminated and interpreted.”

A distributor, in addition to filmmaker, Greenberg was a 2024 Berlinale Talents recipient and more well known for his role at Utopia and Circle Collective where he heads up distribution and marketing. He has led the campaigns for recent independent hits such as Sean Price Williams’ The Sweet East, Emma Seligman’s Shiva Baby, Krisoffer Borgli’s Sick of Myself, Gaspar Noe’s Vortex, Pascal Plante’s Red Rooms and over a hundred other feature films over the last decade.

Telefilm awarded Maguire a Talent to Watch grant at the end of 2024 and she is currently in pre-production on her first feature film EXTERNAL NEIGHBOURS set to shoot later this year, with Maguire starring in addition to writing and directing. Maguire’s previous solo short films such as CONSTELLATIONS and IT’S NOTHING have played the likes of TIFF to the BFI, Fantasia, Palm Springs and beyond. Maguire began acting as a child (her first roles in Saving Private Ryan, Ever After) and as an actress in recent years she's starred in the Shudder Original VIOLATION (Sundance, TIFF) THE HUMMINGBIRD PROJECT (TIFF, VIFF) and WITH LOVE AND A MAJOR ORGAN (SXSW, Fantasia).

The British-Canadian-American filmmaking duo also known as STUPID CO have recently launched the dog-friendly screening series and zine CANNES DOGS in addition to the one-day underground Vancouver festival, OFF-VIFF that started in 2024, both of which they plan to bring back in 2025. Maguire & Greenberg launched STUPID CO in 2024 not only to make a really cool hat, but to build a home for their own artistic work. Their latest short film ‘FRENCH LESSONS’ kicked off a festival tour in March at the Americana Film Festival in Barcelona and played at the Miami Film Festival earlier this April ahead of more dates to be announced.
