What can a person do when their drive and desire are pushed to the max? That is the question that this documentary asks and answers. Drive, determination, passion, motivation, and so much more are all part of one person's story to achieve something that can only be described as monumental. Human perseverance is an incredible thing, the ability for one's mind to push their body to extremes is something that I couldn’t possibly try to explain. However, this documentary captures precisely that.

I won’t ruin a film-going experience, but I will say that this film tackles things that I would've never expected. Not so much from the story but from how far the film's subject goes. I would stay away from the IMDb synopsis; it tells just a bit too much about what the film is ultimately about. Not that it’s on the same level as spoiling a blockbuster, but if you’re unfamiliar with this story or John Tarlton’s experience, it could give you more information than you wanted.

While the movie's primary focus is on Tarlton’s second Race Across America (RAAM), this shows his journey in an up-close and personal way that makes you feel like part of his team. Statistically, around half of the participants that attempt this race don’t finish, which gives him the desire to try and accomplish a goal. At 50 years old, someone half his age would have a tough time even when well prepared.

The film takes place over the 12-day event “Starting in Oceanside, under one of the longest piers in California, RAAM spans 3000 miles, climbs 175,000 feet, crosses 12 states, and finishes in Annapolis, Maryland, the east coast sailing mecca.” I felt like I had worn myself out while just watching the film. I can’t even imagine what this would do to a person, the extremes, the nonstop pace. I feel like even if you enter this event, you’ve already won. It’s awe-inspiring to see what these athletes have to go through even at the pinnacle of health.

Thanks to MPRM Communications for sharing this incredible look at what one human can achieve.
