In a film inspired by actual events, we’re given an up-close and personal look at the world's issues today. Director Eugen Jebeleanu offers up his feature film debut and does so with patience and a story that needs to be told and shared.

The film is a story within a story; it looks into subjects that shouldn’t be an issue today but is all too close to reality. Our story centers on Conrad Mericoffer (Cristi), who is a member of the Bucharest police. He is struggling to hide his romance with his long-distance boyfriend, and the events that unfold make this more complex and more challenging throughout the film. As his personal life and professional life meet in a head-on battle.

The cast in this film made me feel like I was watching a documentary more than a live-action film. That isn’t an insult in any way but the truest of compliments. When acting becomes so real that you can’t separate it, that’s when you know you’ve reached the pinnacle in what you’re trying to accomplish.

The film is in Romanian and French; I found it incredibly easy to follow along with the pacing and subtitles. I read at a good pace while also fully invested in what was happening on screen.

On a more personal note, this is dear to me; I am an LGBTQ+ ally and will always fight for one's right to love whomever they love. I hope that the continuation of films like this shines a light on how we shouldn't look at someone differently regardless of who they love. The strength it takes to put these stories on film is awe-inspiring; please remember that each person is living a life of their own with struggles and battles that they have to tackle daily.

Thank you to Foundry Communications and Film Movement for sharing this beautiful story!
