RAVING REVIEW: Prepare yourselves for a compelling foray into the Argentine teenage world through Mariano Biasin's feature-length debut film – SUBLIME. Martín Miller portrays Manuel, the central character, and navigates the labyrinth of adolescence, the joy and jitters of young love, and the trials of self-discovery.

SUBLIME is a blank canvas where Manuel's emotional trajectory unfurls in raw sincerity. As he grapples with his burgeoning feelings for Felipe (Teo Inama Chiabrando,) his friend, the movie gains a compelling rhythm. Biasin's deft handling of the subject – sensitive, honest, and persuasive – makes it an affecting portrayal of a young man's journey through the unchartered waters of adolescence.

The film's narrative, centered on Manuel's friendship with Felipe, and the bittersweet high school experience, feels universally relatable. It's an age-old story told with a fresh perspective, but things take a poignant turn as Manuel is consumed by a tide of emotions for Felipe, leading to personal turmoil.

SUBLIME rises above the fray by refusing to sensationalize Manuel's self-revelation about his feelings for Felipe. His storytelling approach humanizes Manuel's struggle to reconcile with societal norms, thus making the film an authentic mirror of the realities many adolescents face today.

In contrast to typical teenage dramas, SUBLIME delivers an unhurried narrative that gracefully sidesteps clichés. While the film's meticulous pacing might not be for everyone, the attention to detail and an immersive score grant the narrative a depth that keeps the audience riveted. I can admit that slow-burn films typically aren’t my cup of tea, but it was a necessity in this story and worked well.

SUBLIME doesn't pull any punches in addressing the challenges of adolescence head-on. Manuel's internal voyage, spurred by his feelings for Felipe, contradicts the traditional coming-of-age narrative. It showcases the adolescent's growth amidst societal constraints, making the film a tale that resonates with reality.

SUBLIME’s realistic depiction of Manuel's family dynamics is one of its best highlights. The subtle portrayal of tensions within his family, with parents brought to life by Javier Drolas (Padre de Manuel) and Caroline Tejeda (Madre de Manuel,) adds another layer to the narrative. The deliberate avoidance of over-dramatization bestows the film with a rare authenticity that distinguishes it from similar genre offerings. Music is pivotal in SUBLIME, illuminating Manuel's emotional journey. The score is beautifully integrated to emphasize Manuel's internal battles and emotional maturity. This beautiful mix of drama, music, and a dash of humor shapes a relatable narrative that challenges the norms we’ve come to expect.

SUBLIME knits an authentic, sensitive, and relatable character-driven story revolving around the complexities of adolescence. Its honest portrayal of young love, the hurdles of self-discovery, and societal expectations make it essential viewing for those who appreciate films that stimulate thought and tug at the heartstrings.
