RAVING REVIEW: An experience I wasn’t expecting, all of the pieces that came together for a fun cult classic experience that paid homage to so many films that had come before it.

While watching the film, I couldn’t help but notice the apparent inspiration from the horror genre. I’ve seen a lot of comparisons to Dario Argento, which is probably the most excellent compliment anyone could give to a horror film. I also see little bits and pieces from many others as well. That isn’t a negative; they didn’t copy other movies from the genre but made it their own while honoring the classics.

Thankfully, although this is a “sequel,” you don’t need to have watched the first film in order to appreciate this one. I’m a self-described completionist, so I want to get and watch EVIL DEAD TRAP eventually, but from everything I’ve read, they are only sequels by name and possibly setting.

I feel that I need to mention that this film is bloody, it’s gore-filled, and it’s violent. I think you should be able to assume a good portion of that, but apparently, some are shocked to find this out when watching it.  While the script struggles to stay consistently focused, overall, it’s a fun experience that I wish some more of the modern films in the genre would borrow from. One that instantly came to mind was TOKYO GORE POLICE, I was so hyped up for that film, and while I know many people love it, I found it almost laughable at times. It is self-aware, but that takes the potential of the excellent industrial setting and wastes it with cheesy, over-the-top fake aspects.

This film knew the restraints it was working within and still made everything work together, giving us a final product that was as solid as it was unsettling.
