RAVING REVIEW: With an opening scene that sets the stage for the film, THE INVISIBLE FIGHT whisks us away on a narrative roller coaster that defies genre norms, combining elements of comedy, martial arts, and an introspective journey set during the tense USSR-China 1970s era. Under Rainer Sarnet's direction, this film crafts a compelling tale around Rafael (Ursel Tilk,) a soldier whose near-death experience leads to a profound spiritual quest. Sarnet mixes the absurd with moments of genuine insight, creating a film that entertains and makes you think. This film reaffirmed a discussion I had last week and had mentioned multiple times before. You can’t judge a movie without watching it in its entirety. I had almost written this one off, but it captured my imagination and proved a worthy addition to its crazy genre.

Estonia's Rainer Sarnet takes storytelling to new heights with THE INVISIBLE FIGHT, showcasing his knack for melding a grab bag full of elements into a cohesive, engaging narrative. Rafael embarks on an unconventional journey from battlefield to monastery, seeking enlightenment. The movie's seamless blend of action-packed martial arts, the nostalgic soundtrack of the 70s (with a slight overreliance on one of my favorite songs,) and moments of deep introspection highlight Sarnet's skill in engaging audiences across a spectrum of emotions.

Yet, the film's eclectic mix of genres and themes occasionally seems at odds with itself, straddling the line between insightful commentary and outright absurdity. While part of the film's charm, this balancing act sometimes leaves the narrative unfocused, potentially alienating viewers seeking a more straightforward story.

The ensemble cast, including solid performances by Ester Kuntu, Kaarel Pogga, and others, enriches the film's exploration of themes like rebellion, authenticity, and self-discovery amidst societal pressures.
