So I’ve never read the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, but I’ve heard of them and seen plenty. Unless you’re living under a rock, the odds are that you also have. They have now taken their inspirational books and brought the same idea to a streaming service, and while this is my first dive into their offerings, I hope it won’t be my last.
The film takes what I know about the books and puts it to screen. The entire documentary is filled with moments that truly define inspiration, and I loved that even when there was a moment of defeat, positivity was found in everything. In short, “A group of plus-sized women from around the world attempt to climb the tallest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.”
Honestly, I’m not in the best shape of my life, and these women inspired me so much. Seeing them overcome every obstacle thrown in their way, their passion, and their desire to be the best version of themselves all make my heart happy. It’s so interesting to see something that you assume can only be done by “the best of the best,” and seeing these warriors laugh in the face of the challenge was incredible.
My favorite part of the film is that it shows you that complete and utter victory isn’t the only way to “win” sometimes; that’s a message we should all remember. Just because you don’t do something “perfectly” doesn’t mean that you didn’t still accomplish greatness. Someone else will always look at your accomplishments in amazement.
I would be curious, for anyone who has read the books, is this what they make you feel like? I love that it’s a mix of “From mysteries to miracles, comedy to true crime, the Royal family to RomComs,” and more. I hope the streaming service will be filled with stories and films like this.
